Beach Sports and Dubai are a perfect match

The opening session of the Beach Sports Week, organized by Dubai Sports Council in cooperation with a number of government and private institutions, has witnessed participation from people of different nationalities and ages.

The participants enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere at Kite Beach Jumeirah, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, said: “We are pleased with the wide turnout and success achieved by Beach Sports Week, which has been organised by Dubai Sports Council within a series of sporting activities in various areas of Dubai, and we have chosen a wide variety of sports to encourage the public from different groups of society to practice sports and physical activity.

“We have been organising sports events since June, and we were one of the first cities to organize sports activities after the lockdown, where we started to work immediately after the government’s decision to reopen the sports sector. We started with the organization of the Marine Sports Week, which saw wide participation of water sports enthusiasts, and now we organize these tournaments, and after two weeks from now, we will organize the Snow Sports Week.

“The Council has chosen diverse events, on different surfaces like water, sand and snow, in an effort to spread sport among all members of society, in all their different groups and ages and to provide an opportunity for every member of our community to practice all kinds of sports.”

Al Rahma added: “Beach Sports Week includes four sports, which are Beach Volleyball, Beach Tennis, FootVolley and AirBadminton. These sports are becoming increasingly popular in the UAE, despite them being comparatively new sports in the country. They are popular among both amateur and professional athletes, especially football players, and most of them are Brazilians.

“We are really happy to see that, happy to see players from different countries of the world come to Dubai to play this game throughout the year because the beautiful beaches in Dubai are suitable for this game, and the weather makes it easy to play this game at any time of the year.”
